7 Ways to Increase Your Worth

(Without changing who you are)

Let me say this clearly: Your worth is not your title. Not your relationship status. Not your revenue. Not your body. Not your productivity.

Your worth is intrinsic. But your experience of your worth? That’s something you build.

Here’s how.

1. Stop Negotiating Your Standards

Worth rises when your standards rise.

If you tolerate:

  • Disrespect
  • Poor behaviour
  • Half-effort
  • Broken promises

…you teach people how to treat you.

Being kind does not mean being permissive. Being compassionate does not mean self-abandonment.

Leadership rule (in life and work):

It is kind to be clear. It is unkind to be unclear.

Set the boundary. Hold the line. You don’t need to explain your value to those committed to misunderstanding you.

2. Keep Promises to Yourself

Every time you say:

  • “I’ll start Monday.”
  • “I’ll speak up next time.”
  • “I deserve better.”

… and then you don’t follow through?

Your brain registers it.

Neuroscience tells us our Reticular Activating System (RAS) filters evidence based on what we repeatedly signal. If you repeatedly break self-promises, your brain gathers proof that you are unreliable — to yourself.

Want to increase worth?

Do one small thing daily that builds self-trust.

  • Send the email.
  • Go for the walk.
  • Have the conversation.
  • Finish the proposal.

Self-trust is self-worth in action.

3. Speak With Conviction, Not Apology

How often do you say:

  • “Sorry, just a thought…”
  • “This might be silly but…”
  • “I’m probably wrong…”

That language shrinks your authority.

You can be warm and powerful. You can be empathetic and decisive. You can be kind and clear.

Replace: “Sorry, just thinking…”

With: “Here’s my perspective.”

Your voice is a leadership tool. Use it like one.

4. Build Competence — Quietly and Relentlessly

Confidence without competence is noise. Competence without confidence is invisible.

Increase your worth by increasing your skill.

  • Read.
  • Learn.
  • Ask better questions.
  • Seek feedback.
  • Invest in development.

I’ve been in leadership for over 30 years and still study neuroscience, EQ, human behaviour, and the future of work. Why?

Because growth mindset isn’t a buzzword. It’s self-respect.

When you improve your capability, you naturally raise your value in any room.

5. Choose Courage Over Comfort

Worth expands when courage expands.

Have the hard conversation. Apply for the role. Launch the idea. Leave the environment that shrinks you.

Every courageous action rewires your brain.

Neuroplasticity teaches us this: Repeated brave behaviour builds new neural pathways. Brave becomes familiar. Familiar becomes identity.

And identity is powerful.

You are not waiting to be chosen. You are choosing yourself.

6. Stop Taking It Personally

This one changed my life.

Not everyone will:

  • Understand you.
  • Like you.
  • Support you.
  • Choose you.

And that’s okay.

Their response is about their lens, their fear, their story.

When you stop internalising everything, you conserve energy. When you conserve energy, you increase impact. When you increase impact, you increase perceived and internal worth.

Let them misunderstand. Let them project. Let them choose differently.

You keep choosing you.

7. Align With Your Values (Even When It’s Uncomfortable)

Worth skyrockets when your behaviour matches your values.

If you value:

  • Integrity → tell the truth.
  • Courage → speak up.
  • Kindness → act with empathy.
  • Growth → stretch yourself.
  • Service → lift others.

Misalignment creates internal conflict. Alignment creates peace.

And peace, as I’ve learned over the years, is more important than applause.

When you live aligned, you don’t need external validation as desperately. Because you respect yourself.

The Truth About Worth

Increasing your worth is not about becoming louder, harder, or more impressive.

It’s about:

  • Raising standards
  • Building self-trust
  • Growing competence
  • Acting courageously
  • Living aligned

It’s the leadership of self.

And leadership isn’t a title.

It’s how you show up.

You don’t need to become someone else to increase your worth. You need to become more of who you already are.

Strong. Capable. Kind. Courageous.

And if anyone tells you you’re “too much”?

Perfect.

That means you’re exactly enough for the leadership this world needs.

If this resonated, share it with someone who needs the reminder.

And if you’re ready to step into your next level of leadership, confidence and impact…let’s talk.
