This morning, I woke up—and I couldn’t.
Not physically. I could move. I could make coffee. I could open my laptop.
But I couldn’t show up. Not today. Not the way I usually do.
Behind the confident smile, the fiery posts, the workshops and keynotes, the coaching calls full of heart, I’ve been holding it all together. Quietly. For too long.
And if I’m being really honest, that strength started to feel more like a burden than a badge.
The Beautiful… and the Brutal
Running a business with a big vision, being a solo parent, building a brand, growing a community, writing books, helping others rise—it’s beautiful.
But sometimes? It’s also brutal.
In recent weeks, I’ve felt it more than ever.
Clients who vanished after I poured my soul into their journey. Projects that fell apart without warning. People I trusted who took more than they gave. Consultants who promised and didn’t deliver. A creeping whisper: “Maybe you’re not enough.” “Maybe it’s you.”
And that’s the trap so many of us fall into—the kind ones. We give. We serve. We lift others. And when the world doesn’t meet us with the same kindness? We turn inward. We blame ourselves.
But here’s the thing.
Kindness Isn’t Weakness. It’s Power with Heart.
I believe in kindness. Fiercely. I’ve built my life around it. However, I’ve also learned that kindness without boundaries can lead to burnout. And I refuse to model a kind of leadership that only works when you’re running on empty.
Today, I needed to press pause. Because I couldn’t keep leading from a state of depletion. I couldn’t cry between Zoom calls anymore and call that “strength.”
So, I didn’t.
What This Teaches Me (And Maybe You, Too)
If you’re feeling this too—this quiet ache, this invisible fatigue—here’s what I hope you’ll remember:
1. You Are Allowed to Rest.
You don’t have to collapse before you care for yourself. You don’t need to earn rest. Rest is not weakness. It’s wisdom.
2. Boundaries Are a Kindness—to Yourself and Others.
Saying “no” is powerful. Letting go of misaligned clients or energy-drainers is a form of self-respect. You can be kind and walk away.
3. You Are More Than What You Produce.
You are not your calendar. You are not your last deal. You are not defined by your inbox or the reach of your LinkedIn post.
You are whole—even when you’re quiet. You are worthy—even when you pause.
4. It’s Okay to Say “Not Today.”
Not today, inbox. Not today, proving yourself. Not today, being “on.”
Today, just be. Walk. Breathe. Cry. Heal. Put your hand on your heart and whisper: “You’ve done enough.”
This Is What Kindness-Inspired Leadership Looks Like
I’m not writing this for sympathy. I’m writing it because I know someone out there is tired too. Someone who’s been leading from love, but is losing themselves in the process.
This is your permission slip:
Take the day. Take a breath. Take the space. Say “no” when you mean it. Say “not today” without guilt. Say “I’m not okay” and mean it with strength.
Because the world doesn’t need more burnt-out leaders, it needs whole, kind, courageous ones.
The ones who show others that rest is sacred. That you can be strong and soft. That you can lead and still fall apart—and rise again.
So today, I’m not fixing. I’m not posting. I’m not coaching. I’m not saving anyone but myself.
I’m listening to the birds. Drinking tea. Letting the sun warm my back. And gently reminding myself…
“You matter. Even when you’re resting.”
And if you needed that reminder, too? Here it is from my heart to yours.
